Blue skies shinin’ on me…
That’s all that I could think of when I looked at these blossoms coming out in front of this gorgeous sky. I love the beauty of nature that is growing daily as spring unfolds. The rain, and wind, and rushing warm to cold and back again have not stopped – but rather usher in – this graceful and amazing new clothing of the earth.
At the time I go to sleep, it is cold and dark. I never know if it is going to be cold and rainy or warm and bright in the morning. It is a mystery to me. I hope for the latter; but either way, the birds are singing every sunrise. I am learning to encourage my soul to sing, too – no matter what comes.
I can feel the awakening as life returns to the limbs of the trees, the blades of grass. I am excited to wake in the mornings. The birds feel it, too. They seem to be singing harder every day. There is a peaceful anticipation flooding the air as the landscape swims into pink, green, and white – changes that could never have happened without the harshness of rain.
I am also reveling in the beauty that God, our Father, is working in people in this time of sorrow and confusion. I have seen how people are opening their hearts and their resources to others – reaching out to help them. I have seen people offer to buy groceries for one another (one set of such have hardly spoken for years). I have seen businesses offering HIGHLY discounted – or FREE products/services just to help people get by, or to pass the time healthfully. I have seen the Christian church family rise up to make an even bigger effort to draw closer together, support each other, and provide for needs for the people. What a beauty we would never have seen if it weren’t for the hardship of a pandemic that caused it.
Many times over history, God has revealed Himself to people in a time of horror. The Bible is filled with them – the Exodus from Egypt, the rescue through Esther, the resurrection of Jesus. History books are filled with them – people hiding and smuggling out Jews in WW2, the Pilgrims on Thanksgiving, rescue workers and civilians working around the clock after terrorist attacks and natural disasters. In stories large and small, when the people are pressed; love and beauty come to the surface and out-rule the brokenness and confusion. This love and beauty would have stayed hidden in hearts if not for the shock that softened them.
If you are a caregiver like me, you may have more unique stresses than some others do as you navigate this reality of self-isolation. The dear one you care for may not understand. They may be taking their frustration out on you. You may be digging in every nook and cranny to find something for them to do.
For the most part, our boy has been getting better and better about the new systems in place; but it’s still hard. How do you manage to keep a young teen, who has a hard time fully understanding why, inside almost all day, without a definite end date? This is not something that we were made to do!
Yet, by God’s grace, I am seeing our family grow closer in this time. We are becoming more creative with how we spend time together. We are all (even our dear one) looking for ways to encourage and sympathize with each other. We are all trying to work harder for the life that we really want in our home. I can see a miracle that I did not even know how to pray for. I am brought almost to tears as I see the deep healing that could not have come any other way.
It is in times of need that miracles happen, and I am seeing them. Are you seeing them, too? Let the light that is spreading in this darkness warm your heart and comfort your soul. May you all be drawn closer to the Father’s grace and truth. May you be strengthened and encouraged so you may thrive in this time. May you be safe as you go on your way. May you find wisdom as we discover this season of our reality together. May you see miracles worldwide and miracles in your own life. I am praying blessings on all of you!
Isaiah 19
“This is what the Sovereign LORD, the Holy One of Israel, says: ‘In repentance and rest is your salvation, in quietness and trust is your strength’.” Isaiah 30:15
